" It's official, layoffs have hit EA Tiburon offices in Maitland, makers of Madden, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and much under the EA Sports name. Best of luck to those let go, and to the rest of Tiburon.
The Sentinel's technology reporter Etan Horowitz has the details:
In December, Electronic Arts, a California-based company that makes Madden NFL Football, The Sims and other popular games, announced that it was cutting about 1,000 jobs, or 10 percent of its work force, and would close or consolidate at least nine of its production facilities.
At the time, EA officials would not say if any of the cuts would take place at Tiburon, which produces some of the company’s most popular games including Madden NFL Football and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
But today, Craig Hagen, who handles government affairs for Electronic Arts in North America and works at Tiburon, confirmed that employees there had been let go.~ Orlando Sentinel.com" The Madden franchise is finally heading the right direction, and this is how the employees are rewarded I guess.

They could just release the same game with updated players and that would be good enough for me. Usually when a game is this good and there really isn't much to change they stretch for "improvements" which usually just make the game worse. For example, the QB cone...ugggghhhh. Remember that one? And I like the old kicking and punting meter. I still have no idea how to angle a punt out of bounds. I aim it out of bounds, hit it perfectly, and the punt goes right down the middle of the field. And I punt a lot.

The QB cone was great. It was the most realistic passing game in a video game. But just because people had a hard time learning how to use the cone, they complained.

Yea you actually had to look at the receiver while throwing it.. I liked it too

And on the defensive side it was the only way you could "read the QBs eyes" in a video game. If you like sim football, I don't see how you didn't like the cone.

I never had a problem reading where the person was gonna throw the ball so that wasn't why I liked it. Or at least I never thought of that. But I thought it was a nice addition. You're right about the complainers not liking it because it took time to learn. It wasn't a game you could just pick up and play

I hated the cone. If you had Peyton Manning the entire field was in the cone so there was no cone at all for you, but if your opponent had David Klingler he couldn't complete a pass because his cone was dental floss thick.
And it is all coming back to me now, you couldn't move the cone with your thumb and push the WR button with that same thumb at the same time. You would have to take your thumb off the cone, it would move, and then pass it without being able to re-position the cone.

Not with any team, pass rush wasn't an issue at all for me either.

I definitely hated the cone. It made passing harder. Shit, even without the cone I can't f-ing pass!!!!!!

Most would take their 30 step drops before throwing it. I wouldn't of had a problem throwing it either if I did that. I took my 3 to 7 drop and threw it, like real football.

That's all I did, I mostly used the Jags and they had Leftwich. I don't think i'm going to drop back 30 yards to throw the ball. The cone passing was the most realistic passing system in a video game. You couldn't look at the whole field and throw it to just anyone, it also helped tone down scrambling. The only people who didn't like it, were the people who couldn't throw the ball.

Yeah I thought it was a great idea, but didn't work mainly because at least I can't do two things at the same time with the same thumb, move the stick and hit the WR button at the same time. Maybe some people have two right thumbs.
It was too much for me, I couldn't watch my QB to avoid the rush with my left stick, watch the damn cone with the right stick, and try to pass to a WR using the same thumb I am moving the cone with.
It was either watch the cone and get sacked or don't get sacked and miss wide open WRs because the cone was in the wrong place.

Well like in real football, you're supposed to look and throw, its a quick motion and I was able to do it no problem

I just realized the reason you couldn't use the QB cone, was because you were doing it wrong. You weren't suppose to select the receivers using the right analog stick, all you had to do was press and hold the L trigger, then press whatever button for the receiver you wanted to look at. I never used the right analog stick, not once.

Oh, I used the right analog stick all the time, lol. At least it helped my reflexes out a bit
