An officially Licensed NFL Game that's not Madden? (Read 93 times)

Coming immediately after comments from within Electronic Arts that some studios weren't excited about working on Revolution...err, Nintendo Wii, the company revealed to GameSpot their upcoming Madden NFL release on the console will not simply be a port of their existing or upcoming Madden NFL 2007 release on the other machines. Development on the Wii-specific version of the sports game has been taken out of the traditional EA Tiburon offices and into a focused group at the publisher's EA's Burnaby, British Columbia studio. The game won't even be called Madden NFL 2007, though EA's remaining mum on the final name. May wii suggest...okay, sorry, wii'll stop.

"What we've tried to do is take the time we've had with the system and spend all of our time on maximizing gameplay," said EA Canada and former EA Tiburon leader John Schappert. "To us, what is so great about the Revolution is the uniqueness in control and the new experience it's going to bring consumers."

The focus will be on the interface changes. Examples cited in the article include snapping the controller to throw a pass, with the player's movement speed determining the 'bullet' nature of the toss. Players will also interact with the usually boring kick off by sweeping the controller ala a real kicker. Madden's running game will also be affected by jukes and stiff-arms determined by moving the controller left and right.

Unconvinced players who happen to be attending E3 next month will have a chance to get hands-on with one of EA's first offerings for the Wii, so we'll have a better idea of what the publisher has in store soon.

What they want players to understand, however, is they won't be offering up straight ports to the machine. "We want to bring out games that are great for the Revolution. And that's what we're trying to do," said Schappert. "We're trying to take our expertise, and happily having a great football engine that we can count on solves a lot of problems."

I can't imagine playing a football game with the Wii's controller... Having to actually do the throwing motion, to throw a pass, just seems like it would be more annoying than fun.

Not sure if I'll be getting a the Wii...but, hopefully those that do...that get his game, can express their opinions on it.

ill have it so ill def post how it plays, but thats still far away, and its still an EA game anyway even though its not madden...
